Tiny Visitors

We have a little house, with a great big yard, and a creek running through it. The creek is beautiful, and it terrifies me. Little boys are so very unaware of danger. Some of the great things that the creek brings are wild flowers and ducks. Every spring we have ducks in the yard. One year a pair of them stayed for over a month! This Saturday we had a mommy duck with her ducklings! We've never had ducklings before. They are so well camouflaged that you have to look hard to see them in the first picture.

Can you tell how many there are? 12! Twelve ducklings! I've never heard of so many little babies at once.
We've been watching them for two days now. She takes them on what Jeff calls "field trips"- they stop by the creek and the ducklings all huddle under mommy's wings for a "nap", and then 30 minutes later she leads them all around the yard, then the do it all again. It's very funny. They're so tiny that when they walked through the grass (that is freshly mowed) we can barely see them! Just little fuzzy bumps bobbing up and down. Ha!

12! That is crazy. I don't think I've ever seen that many either. so sweet. Maybe we'll have to come up this week to take a peek. What are your plans?
Do you have the book Make Way for Ducklings-by Robert McCloskey? It is a very cute book about ducklings-go rent it at the library if you don't have it.

Sadly, our little ducklings are now gone. They were just here for a short visit I guess. I actually told Bear that it was just like "Make Way For Ducklings" (one of his favorite books), the Daddy Duck, Mr. Mallard, was probably looking for a spot to raise the ducklings and the mommy duck was bringing them to meet him.

I miss them already...

Too bad they are already gone. I do have to say that ducks are better than the seagulls we get pooping on us. Ducks are cute, but you are right, they can be dangerous!

So how long are you going to wait before you eat them?

How fun for you guys! But I know what you are talking about as far as the water running through your back yard. We have an irrigation ditch running through our front yard. SO dangerous!!!
